The BECAS program provides 100% of the total needs for Honduras children who are selected to attend school for the next school year. This ministry program was designed to help the least fortunate get an education.
Working with the pastors of the local Methodist Mission churches, applications received are prioritized based on need. The number of children who will have an opportunity to attend school this year will be based on the amount of funds received into this program. Public school in Honduras is "free," but many children are unable to attend because of the cost of entry fees, uniforms, and school supplies they are required to buy. Arrangements have been made with wholesale suppliers for school supplies, uniforms and shoes which help reduce the overall cost of the program, and allow the children to receive 100% of their needs to be met by your contributions. This is a ministry that can impact these children for their entire lives. There are now well over 500 children being sponsored thru this program and attending schools. A recent follow-up by the program administrator found that only about 2% (10) of the children have dropped out either due to families moving away, or the parents requesting them to work.
Several Sunday school classes took this on as a class project as well as individual participants. We would like to continue to support our friends and children in Subirana. If you would like to help sponsor a child as an individual, application forms are available in the church office or you may contact Charlie Ratcliffe, Chairman of Missions. If you would like to use this as a Sunday school project again, a special account has been set aside for this program. The cost to sponsor a child is only $100.00. You can make checks payable to FUMC, marked Honduras scholarship. YOU are invited to join in this partnership with God to help change the lives of our beloved Honduran children. Through prayer, encouragement, and your sponsorship, Honduran children can have an education, which will help break the cycle of poverty in their country and allow them to grow in self worth and come to know Jesus Christ as their Savior.
