Butterscotch
In
early July 1997, Laura Wells and Frances Burns were out for their
morning walk when they were greeted by a small dog who insisted
on following them home. Investigation by staff showed the dog to
be a flea-ridden female, but with a charming personality. Steps
were taken to see if anyone had lost such an animal, but to no
avail. Residents kept saying, "I hope we can keep her. She
is such a sweet dog."
Subsequently, "Butterscotch" (named by Mattie Lou
Summey) [bold], was formally adopted, taken to the vet for shots
and spaying, and became a part of the Brooks-Howell family. She
is a small, caramel colored, mixed breed, but at least part
Shi-Tzu. She loves everyone and enjoys sitting for long periods
of time in the laps of health unit residents. The vet estimates
that she is six years old. She has large soulful eyes. She has an
internal calendar, and knows when to show up for bell choir
rehearsel, choir, crafts, chapel and other events. She spreads
around her attention at each event by lying under chairs of
different residents. Harley the cat, and Butterscotch, the dog,
have become great friends.
