Bettie Sue Smith

Having just completed her twentieth year at Red Bird Mission, Bettie Sue Smith, of Marshall County, joined the residents at Brooks-Howell Home in July, 1998. Besides teaching high school English, psychology and Bible, each year she sponsored the yearbook. She served as Sunday School teacher and Chair of the Administrative Council at Beverly United Methodist Church, and as Chair of the Red Bird Missionary Conference Superintendency Committee. In addition, she has served as tour guide and guest hostess for visitor groups.

Bettie attended schools in Marshall County, receiving her BA degree from Lambuth College, in Jackson, TN. She earned her Master's Degree from UNC-Chapel Hill. She has taken additional courses at St Paul's School, Appalachian State University, and the University of Kentucky. After graduating from Lambuth College in 1955, she taught English in the public high school at Medina, TN. From there, she decided to become a US-2, leading to fourteen years at Allen High School. She was commissioned a deaconess in 1983.
