Ethel Raddon

Born and raised in England, Ethel Raddon is the youngest of 6 children born to Hugo John and Elizabeth Raddon. Her father was a British Methodist Pastor and her mother an educator. Her sister Jean was a missionary in Zaire and the Ivory Coast for 30 years, and all her siblings were involved in church activities.

In January, 1955, Ethel sailed to India to serve as a missionary with BMMF, an international and interdenominational missionary fellowship headquartered in London, England. An educator, Ethel served in Manoram Sadan in Manmad, Kimmin's High School in Panchgani and Woodstock High School in Landour. The last eight years of her time in India, Ethel was Director of the Christian School of Creative Writing based in Nasik, training graduate students from all over India, from Ceylon and Indonesia, to become effective Christian writers during one-year residential courses. As Director, Ethel was invited to conduct residential Creative Writing Workshops in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and other various places in India. During all this time, Ethel was working with gifted national Christians, some dramatists, song writers, editors, literature writers, writers for new literates and writers for children.

In 1971 Ethel came to the US for further study. She has a BA, MSC and EdD degrees - and had the joy of sharing fellow Brooks-Howell resident Eunice Sluyter's Fort Lauderdale apartment. Ethel and Eunice met at an All-India Literature Conference in Central India 34 yours ago, and have been good friends ever since. Replaced by an Indian as Director of the Christian School of Creative Writing in Nasik, God opened other doors for Ethel to join the faculty of Nova University in Fort Lauderdale. Working again with graduate students, Ethel developed and taught a Master's program in Learning Technology. For her last 6 years at Nova, Ethel was head of the Learning Technology Department and Director of the TV studio - a challenging and fascinating job.

After leaving Nova University in 1984, Eunice and Ethel became Instructional Design Consultants and were commissioned by the Far East Broadcasting Association to prepare a training program to teach their radio personnel to write effectively for Christian Radio. This they did, and were delighted to be invited to teach the program they had developed to FEBA radio personnel in Harare, Zimbabwe.
