Church Activities

Bonners Ferry UMC has made a commitment to being active in the local and global communities. There are many opportunities throughout the year to be in fellowship with or in service to others.

Family Fellowship

Bonners Ferry UMC celebrates its families with special events planned for all ages. Regular events include Bunko, themed potlucks, themed worship services, and fundraisers to support children and youth activities.  Other events are seasonal, such as the Annual Bonfire, Annual Pig Roast and Luao, Christmas caroling, hikes, or the hanging of the greens for Christmas.

Youth Ministry

The youth have a focus on fellowship, service, study, invitation, and worship.  The youth program includes weekly prayer and share meetings at the high school, a student led small group, monthly outreach events, service projects, retreats, fundraisers and a mission trip.  In addition, our youth participate in conference wide events for UMC youth - Convo and other regional retreats, Christian camping, and Annual Conference.  Our youth are active in Chrysalis, a spiritual retreat for teens and have been strong leaders in the Chrysalis community. In the summertime, they attend church camp, help with Vacation Bible School and have attend Creation at the Gorge.

Local Mission

Our Jesus Works program provides needed services to families in the community, anything from raking leaves to providing meals.  The church building is used by many community groups including TOPS and the weekly soup kitchen. We have also host several  AA and NA groups throughout the week. The building is available free of charge for non-profit community groups, for more information contact the church office at 267-2343. Many of our members volunteer in the community at places like the Restorium and hospital, and for programs like Second Chance and the Crisis Hotline. The church is a member of the local Ministerial Association and provides emergency aid for those in need as well as leading worship at the Hospital and Restorium several times a year.

International Mission

For the last seven years, members from Bonners Ferry UMC have led a week long mission trip to Chihuahua City, Mexico. The trip is sponsored by Volunteers in Mission of the United Methodist Church and have averaged 15-20 people from Bonners Ferry UMC and other area churches.  Other members of our congregation have participated in mission trips to UMCOR headquarters in Louisianna and a UMC camp in Alaska. The United Methodist Women have led the way in mission work by making school kits and health kits for developing countries and by sponsoring missionaries around the world. The congregation also participates in a variety of ongoing ministries such as the blanket ministry for needy children, recycled cell phones for developing countries, and collecting children's shoes for the children in Iraq.

Special Events

Every summer, Bonners Ferry United Methodist Church hosts Vacation Bible School for the children in our community. This year we had approximately 80 children in attendance throughout the week!

In the fall of 2003 we invited Pastor Larry Eddings to lead us in a spiritual revival that lasted one weekend. Each year we also host a "Visitor Sunday" when the congregation intentionally invites visitors to come to church.  We have also hosted a youth Chrysalis spiritual retreat and other ecumenical events over the last several years.

In April 2002, we celebrated our 100th year as a chartered Methodist congregation.  For more information, visit our Centennial page.

UMW has an annual Bazaar each November. Come feast on a hearty meal and find some homemade treasures to fill you home! There are also rummage sales throughout the rest of the year, with proceeds going towards mission projects.
