2010 Pledge Campaign To Kick Off in November

BMUC had a busy 2009. The Church provided activities for all age groups. For youth we continued development of the Youth Council; fasting during Lent to increase awareness of world hunger; youth-led worship services, special young people’s Christmas Plan and Christmas Services, basketball and weekly youth group meetings.  Members also attended family camp and junior and senior high school camp.

For seniors, Akiko Miyake-Stoner led informal meetings to identify their special interests. In addition, the church held a Yasumikai (respite care) day and a special service to celebrate the Nisei.

Friday night movies for the proposed “empty nesters” activity group were initiated. The purpose of this group will be to find ways to increase fellowship among middle-aged members who no longer have children at home are nearing retirement or are already retired.

Short term Adult Sunday School classes, Japanese cooking and the first BMUC member Art Show were held.

Other important activities continued this year. The Bazaar continued to give us an opportunity to work in fellowship to remember the history and founders of our church and to reach out to the community. In addition, the Choir Blast expanded to include a bell choir and original compositions as well as music from the Adult and Junior Choirs and the Okazu band. For the first time, Japanese food was sold as a fund raiser.

The church facilities were also improved. New microphones and a computer slide projector were used to enhance Sunday worship services. A dishwasher was installed to reduce waste and improve the environment. We bought new computers for our minister and church secretary. The Trustees undertook additional improvements for the church and grounds.

All of these programs and services are made available through the generosity of the church membership. We are grateful for your time and financial support of BMUC. Without you, we would not be able to continue these important services and programs. We will be kicking off the 2010 Pledge Campaign in November and look forward to working with you to financially support BMUC.
