A Short History of Bland Chapel

Bland Chapel was created by tearing down the Oak Grove Methodist Church near Monte Ne and reassembling it at its present location, 15 miles east of Rogers off Highway 303. The first services were held in November of 1948.

The church was named Bland Chapel in honor of members of the Bland family who donated the land for the church and paid for the deed and survey. The Bland family has donated a great deal of time, energy, and funds to sustain the church over the years.

In 1967 pews were purchased from the Presbyterian Church in Rogers for $5 each and a new hardwood floor was installed. An altar and kneeling rail of cedar was donated in 1969 in memory of Ethel E. Bland.

In 1978 the church undertook a building program to build a church annex. The new annex was dedicated in 1982 and included a fellowship hall, a pastor's study, Sunday school rooms, and (to the delight of the entire congregation) two indoor restrooms.

In 1988 the church purchased 14 acres of land directly across the street from the chapel. The mortgage for this land was "burned" in 1996.

Bland Chapel completed the expansion of the fellowship hall and recently replaced the sanctuary with a larger and very beautiful facility.
