Text: Philippians 4:1-20 Today’s culture dictates ‘we can do it ourselves’; of course as believers we know differently; or do we? Control is the issue here in the text for today; do we try to control everything and everybody around us, or are we lacking being content? Paul reminds us of the peace of God, that peace that surpasses all understanding. How many times I have heard people say to me, “Pastor, I’ve been praying for so and so for years and nothing has happened”; I then ask if they truly relinquished that person to God, with a common response of, “Well, no, not really”. “Present your petitions to God, and the Peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” This is truly giving God control over the person or situation. Now, this is how I began my trust in God; I keep a spiral notebook and divide each page down the middle with the column on the left reading, “I ask” and the second column, “He Answers”. Simple, yet effective because we articulate to God the true prayer petition and know we will have His perfect response. I began this prayer log 15 years ago and it marvels me even today how God answered the tiniest of prayers along with the greatest of prayer needs. Won’t you try this trust in God today? It is life changing, and prayer changes people, and people change circumstances.
