Mission Statement
We, of Bethel United Methodist Church, claim ourselves to be:
- Bethel - a "household of God" brought together by our belief in God as revealed to us
through the life, words and ministry of his son, Jesus Christ;
- United - by our desire to link our lives in an inclusive way with the other followers of
Jesus;
- Methodist - because we follow the "methods” John Wesley devised for organizing
ourselves into a church body;
- Church - complete as a community of faith, yet a part of the greater Church and
needing it to become whole.
Furthermore, we are continually striving to be:
- welcoming people - extending the hand of friendship and fellowship to all who would
join with us in worship and service;
- a supportive community - sensitive to others and nurturing one another as we
individually and collectively grow in the faith;
- an extended family - where young and old, singles, couples, parents, children, persons
with gifts and persons with needs are valued for their place in our hearts and lives;
- active disciples - alert for God's call and ready to respond in our church, homes and
community;
- generous recipients - passing on to others a portion of what God has given to us in
talents and time;
- sustainers of the faith - emphasizing the importance of future generations to the vitality
of the church by strongly supporting our children's, youth and young adult programs;
- witnesses to the world - by the lives we lead, the love we share, the concern we
demonstrate, and the care we give;
- effective goal setters - setting regular goals and working to achieve them;
- responsible stewards - accountable to one another and before God for all that we do in
Christ's name and for his sake.
