Fellowship Activities and Special Organizations

Monthly Fellowship Meals

Suppers are held on the third Wednesday night, alternating with a lunch on the third Sunday at noon, September through June, except for the Christmas Dinner, which is held on a Sunday night.  Various groups in the church (Sunday School Classes, United Methodist Men, United Methodist Women, and Youth) serve as hosts.  Meals are sometimes prepared by the host group at a minimal cost to persons attending.  Other times we have a covered dish meal.  A variety of entertaining programs follow the evening meal.

Older Adult Activities

Bethel has a group of older adults who plan their own activities.  Sight-seeing trips with lunch at an interesting restaurant is a favorite pastime, and they are always open to new ideas.  This group is called the BUMS—Bethel United Methodist Seniors

Neighborhood Picnic

For several years, Bethel has hosted a Neighborhood Picnic on a Sunday soon after school starts in the fall.  We invite neighbors who live near our church as well as friends of Bethel members.  This is an enjoyable inter-generational event.

Other

Other events include Sunday School Class socials throughout the year, Barbecue Meals, annual Ice Cream Social, Christmas Tea, etc.

Bethel United Methodist Women

The UMW is an organization of women whose purpose is to be a community seeking to know God,  to develop supportive fellowship, and to be in mission to others.  Activities and programs focus on women's and children's concerns, social issues, ecumenical relations, Bible study, personal growth and caring interaction.

Monthly meetings are held September through May and include either a social hour with refreshments, breakfast, supper or tea.  Please refer to the Calendar of Events for specific information.  Child care is provided.  Smaller groups called “circles” also meet monthly in members’ homes.  Any woman may join the UMW, and being a church member is not a requirement.

Bethel United Methodist Men

United Methodist Men is a fellowship of men who seek to grow spiritually and who seek to bring Jesus Christ into all their relationships.  This group undertakes several service projects for the congregation and community.  They meet monthly, September through May, for breakfast, inspiration and a program.  The men host a fund raising barbecue in the spring (chicken) and in the fall (pork).

Walk to Emmaus

Many of Bethel's members have participated in the Walk to Emmaus, a spiritual renewal program intended to strengthen the local church through the development of Christian disciples and leaders.  The 72-hour retreat weekend under the leadership of laity and clergy includes presentations, discussion groups, communion, meditation and prayer.  Men and women attend separate weekends.

Boy Scouts

Boy Scout Troop 324, which meets every Monday, has been an important part of Bethel since 1953.  Participants have fun in scouting's many outdoor-oriented  activities.

Girl Scouts

Three troops of Girl Scouts (Daisies, Brownies, Junior) meet at Bethel every other Thursday.
