Now if I have a piece of equipment I expect it to start

when I need and want it

too...every time. Realizing

my chainsaw was not

going to start I decided

to use the second one

my father had been

working on. Guess what. I got the same result;

it wouldn’t start either.

At this point I figure well

one chainsaw is working,

I’ll use the splitter and

split wood while dad

cuts. split the wood. I pull the wood splitter

over to the wood pile, get it started and find it has no power to split the wood. What does this

have to do with faith?

Pastor RumblingsText Box: Global Ministries: The United Methodist Church

I can be an impatient

man. Just yesterday I

went up to my parents

farm to help my father

cut wood. I took along

my chainsaw, bar oil,

and fuel. I was set for a

day of woodcutting.

When I arrived my father was replacing the air filter on the two chainsaws he had there, and once he got them running felt it was time to work on the pile of logs in the side yard. Now we get into the point of impatience.

I got out my chainsaw, primed it, turned the

starter on and pulled on the cord….nothing. I did this repeatedly for several minutes.

There are

times we want things to

happen in our church so

badly that we get frustrated

when the result

we expect doesn’t happen

the first time...every

time. If we do outreach

we expect to see a huge

turn out the very first

time. We try a new children’s program and we

want results the very first week, we have a work

day and are disgusted

when we don’t get full

participation from the

church. We are impatient

for the promises of

God and forget that the

results God expects are

not always ours, perhaps

we were called that first

attempt to touch only a

few lives.
