WINTER DRIVING TIPS

  • drive slowly and carefully in bad weather
  • use your gears to slow down
  • brake using short, gentle pumps on the brake (If you have an ABS, be sure you understand how they work.)
  • put headlights on in the fog and rain
  • BEWARE of blind corners and approaching traffic
  • carry snow chains for your vehicle and put them on where advised or be sure all weather tires are in good condition
  • keep at least twice the distance between yourself and the vehicle in front of you
  • carry spare blankets, warm clothing, food and water, broom and scraper
  • keep window washer fluid full
  • brake hard
  • use sharp steering movements
  • lock up brakes (Check your vehicle owner's manual instructions for your car model.)
  • drive recklessly
  • park where you will obstruct traffic
  • let children play by the road side where they may be hit by an uncontrolled vehicle
  • drive if tired
  • rely on mobile phones. They will not work in all areas
