Stress: For many of us, the holiday seasons mean trying to fit more "chores" into an already full schedule. Below are some Tips for Managing Stress so that we can all enjoy special times of the year.
- Identify stressful situations; where, with whom, etc., and write or share with a friend.
- How do you handle stress? Is it effective? Try to brainstorm additional ways to reduce stress such as:
- Make a list of goals you want to accomplish each day and try to make it reasonable and do-able. Prioritize and organize activities.
- List to music, take a hot bath, or get a massage. Take a walk.
- Spend time in prayer and/or meditation. Especially at Easter and Christmas, remember what the season is all about.
- Practice and make a habit of breathing rhythmically and deeply.
- Exercise regularly, stretch daily and find a form of activity that is fun for you.
- Get involved in a program, such as Choose to Move - a 12 week physical activity and healthful eating program for women sponsored by the American Heart Association. For more, go to www.choosetomove.org
- Eat correctly, eliminate or moderate your use of sugar, caffeine, preservatives, artifical flavorings, red meat, highly processed foods, and white bleached flour.
- Deal with both success and failure with a balanced attitude. Use everything as a learning experience and an opportunity.
- Don't feel guilty. Building up stress prevents you from doing things well.
- Lighten up! You can't solve all your problems at once. Focus on what you can effectively do now.
- Use your dreams to problem solve.
- Keep your sense of humor. Remember, THIS TOO WILL PASS.
