After completion of his military service, he came back to Berwick with his new bride, Anna Jean Swanson of Keyport, Wash. Together they raised cattle and maintained an apple orchard, where they grew apples and sold sweet cider to many of the local area residents.

He was a longtime member of the Berwick Fire Department, a charter member of the Shells Angels, a town selectman, and served as an interim town manager. He was always very proud to be an active participant in his community.
He was an avid fan of the Boston Celtics, the Boston Red Sox, and his Buick convertible, which he could be seen driving with the top down in all seasons of the year.
He was predeceased by his wife, Anna Jean, in 1991; his brother, Irving in 1949, and his father, John in 1962.
