The Rev. OH & Mary BurtonIn July, Benn's United Methodist Church welcomed into our church family the Reverend Orville Hargis Burton, Jr. (OH). OH comes with his wife, Mary, their son Layel and daughter Lynley. OH is a native of the Virginia's Eastern Shore, growing up in the rural community of Atlantic as the son of a farmer. He crossed the Chesapeake Bay to attend Virginia Wesleyan College, graduating in 1982, and then completed his Master of Divinity from Drew University in 1985. In 1985 he was ordained as Deacon in the Virginia Conference followed by ordination as Elder in 1988. OH has served 20 years in the ministry with the United Methodist Church.OH is coming to us from the Hopewell area, looking forward to a return to the Tidewater area that they developed a fondness for while serving a church in Poquoson. He has taught Disciple Bible Studies, is certified in Clinical Pastoral Education and has served on the Conference Commission on Disabilities, Religion and Race and Conference Housing Chair, District Board of Ordained Ministries, Chairperson Council on Ministries, and Chairperson on Evangelism. His interests include stock car racing, painting, drawing and reading.Please join us to give OH and Mary a warm Benn's welcome!
