Dear Church family,

I am an avid baseball fan. I love the Atlanta Braves. I once took a miniature television to choir practice to watch the playoffs. When the men weren’t singing, I would sneak a peak at the happenings, and before you judge me, remember, I was at choir practice. I could have stayed home. As a result of watching major league baseball almost every night for twenty or more years, I have seen a lot of things. I will tell you about some more of them later, but today I thought I would give you my in-depth analysis of a “bench clearing brawl.” That’s when something happens that makes both teams run onto the field to fight each other. Usually, it is a batter that is hit by a pitch or a moment when un-Christian type words are exchanged, but when those moments come, you gear up for the royal rumble.

As the person gets angry enough to start one of these brawls, the person will charge the offending opponent. As they do, the benches become empty or clear. The one that is charging goes full force knowing that his team will soon be there to back him up. Inevitably, though, the person that leads the charge usually, because they are baseball and not hockey players I suppose, discovers that he is fighting one or two people by himself while the rest of both teams are out there for moral support. When they left the bench, they never meant to fight. Instead, they did what they thought they should do, but they weren’t willing to help with the impending struggle.

Sometimes I feel like the church is like that. It especially feels like that in the summer. To me, it seems like we are always in a struggle against the realities of this world — battling the forces of evil that can be all around us. We are committed to the struggle, but occasionally we aren’t into the fight. We will run out there with no intention of doing battle that day. We stand around and watch as others engage and try to prevail for what is right. However, God wants us to battle

“Thank-you”

As many of you know, we have been praying for the granddaughter of a friend of Mrs. Pugh.  She has, through miraculous means, recovered from being pronounced deceased to sitting up and talking.  She is currently at a rehab facility in Atlanta.  The family knows that we have been praying for Chelsea and wanted to communicate the following to us.  This note is to let you know how much your prayers have meant  in Chelsea’s recovery.  Billie and I cannot thank you enough for your concern and thoughtfulness.  May God bless you each and every one.

“Thank-you”

My Friends in Christ,

Thank you all so very much for all your prayers during my sickness, surgery, and recovery the last 3 years.

God has blessed me over and over.  In each of my surgeries, I know your prayers were sent up for me and I can never express my love and appreciation for them.  The food, flowers, phone calls, gifts, and visits meant so much to me and my family.

                                       Sincerely,

                                       Mary Campbell
