     Capital Campaign Update:
3 Year Mark

Three years ago this March, we began the Capital Campaign.  We had an aggressive goal and we rose to the challenge!  Although we have not met our goal of $400,000.00, we have received $370,500.00.  This is 93% of our goal.

In the past three years, we have built a wonderful addition.  We currently care for 33 children Monday through Friday.  Many small groups enjoy using the different rooms for meetings, and the choirs have their own space for rehearsals.  It is great to see how much the new addition is being used!

Our average Sunday attendance has increased to 156 in the last three years.  We have been a Beacon of Light and Life to this community.  None of this would have happened without your time, your talent and your money.

In January 2007, we officially added a building fund expense line item to our yearly budget and you can see this information in our weekly Sunday Bulletin.  It give ongoing results about the Operation and Building funds.  Both funds are important.

October 2007, we are going to celebrate our 160th church anniversary.  As we look back on the last 3 years, we certainly should be proud of what we have done at Union United Methodist Church.

Dear Members and Friends

Our Capital Campaign reached a climax on Commitment Sunday when we came together in one worship service to offer our praise and to thank God.  At the service, we were inspired with great music, energy and excitement from our children and youth, and the challenge from Reverend Tom Shappell to "trust God" as we made our financial commitments to the Union building project.  I personally was overwhelmed at the response of those in attendance, as they came forward bringing the faith promises to the alter.

Regardless of the total amount of money we received in pledges, the Capital Campaign process we have just gone through will benefit the people of Union for years to come.  Approximately seventy-five people were involved in the planning and implementation of the campaign.  Dozens of people prayed for its success...others were responsible for arranging informational receptions, while others coordinated promotional materials and mailings.  The leadership displayed in all facets of the campaign was equally impressive.

As proof that the residual effects will continue even after the campaign is finished, organized activities for children and youth have been planned for months to come.  Moreover, relationships have been created that will definitely strengthen the ministry of Union.  Not to mention the opportunities for new and existing ministries that will be provided with our new facility.

The Capital Campaign committee will meet again in the next couple of weeks with the consultant from Kirby Smith to plan our next step in this ongoing process.  Undoubtedly, their decisions will be passed on to the Building Planning and Project committee for their action.  The progress of the project will be communicated through the Beacon and our Web Site...so that you can stay informed.

I continue to be blessed as pastor of this church...blessed to be a part of a church family willing to risk, as well as support its mission with their prayers, their gifts and their service.  Continue to pray for God's blessing and guidance as we seek to "serve as God's beacon of light and life to the community."

  Peace,

 Pastor Don
