CHURCH BULLETIN AND CALENDAR

FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

BAINBRIDGE, GEORGIA

FUMC VISION STATEMENT:  God envisions the Bainbridge First United Methodist Church to reach out to others by sharing His love, mercy and compassion, which are fueled by worship and our growing spiritual relationship with Christ.

A Day to Offer!

As we come to worship this week, we come to consecrate our lives and our financial resources to the purposes of Christ. Every year we do this because:

1. We believe all that we have is from God’s hand, and we hold our possessions in “Sacred Trust”.

2. We believe God has richly blessed us and called us to be a blessing to others.

3. We believe God has called us to share the love of Christ through the church.

By this Sunday, your estimate of giving card should have arrived, if not there will be some available in the pews.

Many of you have already returned yours and taken a leap of faith with your increases, thank you.

As you prayerfully prepare for this Sunday, ponder these questions:

l. What did God give for me? 2. What is the ministry and mission of Christ in this Congregation, this community, and this world worth to me? What does God want this congregation to become through our gifts? What amount of my salary, retirement income, investments, and what proportion of it does God want me to give for the work of Christ?

If, after prayerful consideration, you answer each of these four questions with integrity, you will be prepared for a joyful and most meaningful hour of worship as we celebrate Christ the King Sunday. In addition to experiencing the joy of giving and commitment, the church will be strengthened and God will be glorified through your response. My prayer is that each of us will let God guide us as we seek to fulfill His desire for our lives.

Grace and peace,

Stephen

Thanksgiving Day

AFRICAN TEAM MINISTRIES , INC.

There will be African art and jewelry just inside of the Church Office.  If you are interested in purchasing any of these items please see Sheryl Wills during the weekdays and Elizabeth Simmons on Sunday.  The money form the sale of  these items go to help in all different ways in East Africa.  Methodist Churches sponsor seminars to train lay elders in knowing how to care for individuals with HIV and AIDS.  The Methodist Church in Kenya together with other churches has been involved in taking care of the displaced persons, (political unrest displaced 350,000 persons from their homes)  by providing them with clothes, medicines, food, books for school going children, blankets and other necessary items.  Thank you for helping.

MISSION CAFÉ WILL BE OPEN SUNDAY!!!

God Has Graciously Supplied All We Need—Share His Bounty

Macon, Americus, Valdosta, St. Marys, Columbus or Waverly Hall.  These are the locations of the main campus and the group homes for the Methodist Home for Children and Youth.  We will send another supply of linens to Macon in November, before Thanksgiving.  We still need three-piece towel sets, mattress pads for single beds, pillows and pillow covers.  You have been so generous many times over this past year.  Your generosity is being felt at all of these campuses.  It touches the heart of God when you bless one of the least of these, and the Thanksgiving season is a wonderful time to express our gratitude.

If you would prefer a different expression of your gratitude, there is a need for African –American shampoos, styling gels and mousse.  The preferred brands are Waves, Motion and Cream of Nature.  The Home receives an abundance of hair-care products donated for the white residents, but the African-American residents have to purchase their own with their very modest allowances.

The linens or hair-care products can be left in the church office, or you can contact Judith Maxwell (246-4589) for pick-up. Thank you.

Get Thankful

Throughout my growing up years, my mother had an expression she used whenever my sister or I would be unhappy and display a negative attitude.  She would say “Get happy!”  It was understood by her tone and mannerism, that you had better quickly display a more positive outlook or you would be provided with adequate justification for sadness—you get the picture.  Everyone has difficulties, and conflicts, but as Christians, we have abundant reasons to be thankful every day.  If you find yourself dwelling on how life is not going your way, and people are not behaving as you think they should—check your own attitude first.  In Psalm 51, David lays out a pattern for steps to thankfulness:  (1) v. 10 – “Create in me a clean heart, O God.  Renew a right spirit within me.” (2) v. 12 – “Restore to me again the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.”  (3) v. 15 – “Unseal my lips, O Lord, that I may praise you.”  Spend some time in prayer this week, repenting, renewing, restoring joy, being obedient, and ultimately praising God.  Let this Thanksgiving Day be a time to get happy and thankful!

STEWARDSHIP

Traditionally our 4th quarter giving has been strong at FUMC, and I expect it will be again. Currently we have paid 75% of our Conference and District apportionments. I am sure we will continue our record of 100%. We owe $24,000 to reach our goal. Thanks for your continued support. Our Financial Campaign has begun! In these weeks before Commitment Sunday in November prayerfully consider how you have been blessed and how you can be a blessing. God is generous and faithful and calls us to

be the same.

TLC(Food Bank)

Thank you to those who regularly contribute to TLC (food bank) and donate clothing for those in need. We are always in need of personal hygiene items (soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, hand sanitizer, anti-bacterial wipes <check Dollar Tree>, toilet paper), canned meats (ham, chicken, tuna, salmon), canned fruit, small boxes/bottles of laundry detergent, breakfast items (pop tarts, cereal bars, individual packages of oatmeal), and canned vegetables (other than green beans). Please feel free to drop off items at the church or make financial donations earmarked TLC. As you are blessed, bless others.

New Study Offered—Anger to Intimacy

With all of its excitement and anticipation, we are approaching the most stressful time of the year.  We can find ourselves stressed to the point of not being able to enjoy the wonder of the Advent season.  We began a study on Thursday, November 5, at 10:00 in the Library of the Sunday School building, we will begin the six-session study entitled Anger to Intimacy by Dr. Gary Smalley and Ted Cunningham.  This new study focuses on forgiveness and handling our emotions Biblically to restore and maintain healthy relationships in our everyday world.  The cost of this study is $13, which includes the study guide and DVDs.  We will meet on  January 7, 14, and 21 to complete the study.  Please join us for this down-to-earth approach to relationships.  Contact Judith Maxwell (246-4589) for additional information and to let us know that you will join us.

Help During the Holidays

As the holidays are quickly approaching, the Young Adult Sunday School Class is raising money to provide Angel Food boxes to needy families in Decatur County.  A donation of $30 can purchase enough food to feed a family of four for a week or more.  Please consider supporting the hungry families in our community through a donation to Angel Food Ministries.  You can donated by writing a check to FUMC and putting “Angelfood donation” in the memo line.  Checks or cash donations can be dropped off at church or given to any Young Adult Sunday School Class member.  You can also give online at www.angelfoodministries.com.  Be sure to put Bainbridge First United Methodist Church as the location, and be sure to indicate that the box is to be donated in the notes section.  Donations will be accepted through the first week of December.  If you have any questions, you can contact Dayna Watson, Dana Bryant or the church office.
