MOMENTS FOR MINISTRY:
PRAYER JOYS/CONCERNS:
Ron Tull gave a praise for his wife Gini for putting up
with him for 48 years!! Their anniversary is Monday Oct. 5!
Deb Davidson's mom gave thanks to the church family for
all the support given to Deb. She gave thanks for
the prayers and to everyone. She has seen the power of
God at work here. She also gave thanks that Deb is
with the Davidson family and thanked them all. It
soothes her soul to know that when she can't be with her,
they are.
Linda LaMaster asks prayers for the flood victims in
Georgia. She says it is just devastating. There is
damage to her place there too. The water is so high!
Even though there is no new rain, the water is still
rising. Please pray for the locals there.
Pam had a praise, that if you haven't been a Sunday School
teacher, you should try it sometime! She was blessed
this morning with her class. She had a class of 4 girls
today, and they were talking about Elijah, and who God
really is. Each week Pam has the students to say
what they are thankful for. One today said during
their prayer circle, "Thank you God that You are the
only God!"
Linda Austin asks continued prayers for her friend
Carol Saulman who had surgery on Wednesday, and is
recovering in ICU. Also continued prayers for Ron Jr.
as his knee mends.
Mariann had a praise today for a blessing. The roof
of her house was deteriorating. She was blessed
by those where she lives as they have helped her to
get a house. Praises to God as she had turned it all
over to him. She praises Him every day.
A young man asks prayers for his grandpa as he had
fell and hit his head when his legs gave out.
Ralph asks continued prayers for Bonnie Shoaf's
ex-husband, as he is in the hospital.
Linda Austin asks prayers for Tammy as she has
pain in her hip and in her back. The doctors say
it is an inflamed sciatic nerve. She needs to be
off work but can't.
Hunter asks prayers for his grandma Willy as she
will have back surgery on October 20th. Prayers
that this will help.
Logan asks prayers for his grandpa as he is in Iraq
and they haven't heard from him.
Retta asks prayers for a dear friend in South Carolina
who was diagnosed with uterine cancer and will have
surgery Monday.
John Miller gave thanks for all the comfort, love
and support during his recent ordeal. Thanks for
the cards, calls, food and flowers. He says they
think they are lucky because they got it all, and
we expect to make a recovery. Thank you to everyone
for the support.
Pam asks continued prayers for her parents. Strength
for mom, and prayers for her dad as he will be having
back surgery.
Prayers for aches & pains to be tolerable.
Prayers for those who are grieving.
Unspoken requests.
SCRIPTURES: Psalm 62; Hebrews 3:7-19,
read very nicely by Sam Stratton.
MESSAGE: "The Voice of God: His Promises and Actions"
by Pastor Dwight Monical.
I'm going to give you a phrase, and YOU finish it...
Actions speak... *Louder than words!*
If you say you'll be nice to somebody and you're not,
do you say your words were wrong? Actions show if
our words are really true.
I grew up thinking that
in the bible if somebody's perfect God takes them away!
According to John Wesley, that's where we're heading.
We are to strive for perfection. We're not there yet!
In the Psalm Sam read this morning, did you notice
that last part about one thing God has spoken?
You o God, are strong and that You Oh Lord are loving.
These 2 categories: strong, loving---may seem to be
at odds. You've heard of "tough love". Isn't God
strong, powerful and mighty? Isn't God also loving
and caring? Have you ever seen someone that looks
really big and tough looking, like some of the guys
at Kairos, but sometimes you see a person like that
holding a baby. When we had our first child---I
was the youngest in my family and hadn't really
held a baby---I thought, oh my gosh, I'm going to
break it! By the time we had the twins, if they
got hurt but didn't have arterial bleeding,
things were fine! :)
God is all powerful. Don't mess with God---
I'm glad He's on our side!
We've talked about the Voice of God for the
last 3 weeks. The first week was through creation;
second week through the Bible, the third week
through the Holy Spirit, and today, God speaks
just simply through the promises He has for us
and His actions. [Pastor read Psalm 28.]
The Psalmist talks with God---I want to hear
from You---don't be silent! God is not speaking
with words, but the psalmist is hearing them.
God is speaking through what He does. Did you
hear from God this week? Mariann did---she saw
God at work. We hear from God because of his
actions for us. God has provided something through
His strength. God has spoken, Amen?
When we see God at work, He is speaking.
Geneis means beginning. Out of the void, God
did what? He spoke. What happened when he spoke?
The Latin word for this means "something came out
of nothing". Creation occurred! The strength of
God---we see it whenever He speaks to us.
You may never hear the actual words of God---in my
life I have at least twice. God speaks through our
concerns. Most of the time though, it's through what
God does for us. How many here have received salvation
of the Lord? A mighty action of the Lord?
God is at work in our lives---God is working!
How did the Israelites hear God's voice?
Moses tried to set his people free by pleading their case
so they could leave and go to the promised land.
The Pharaoh said no. Then the plagues came, and the
Israelites were safe from them. The Pharaoh finally
let them go. They are going away from Egypt and who
was behind them? Pharaoh and his Egyptian army!
The Israelites didn't have much. God said for them
to stand still and see the salvation of the Lord.
He parted the Red Sea and let them through. Then
He let the waters down on the Egyptians.
The Israelites had seen the salvation of the Lord,
but they complained. No water. God says to Moses
to hit the rock with his staff, and water came.
No food. God sent quail and manna. They saw the
might and power of God every day, over and over
for days, and yet what still happened? They still
rebelled. Remember this today if you hear His voice,
don't harden your heart. Why do we harden our hearts?
Usually it's when we take our eyes off of God, off
Jesus, and where do we put it? Oh, woe is me...
The Psalms say to lift our eyes up to the hills,
look up to God.
When we hear the voice of God, we can trust Him.
We can also talk with God.
Part of speaking is listening. It may not be
an audible voice, but through things done in
our lives. Once we talk with God, He doesn't
stay there when we go out to do our thing, He's
there right beside us. The bible speaks of
yoke of oxen, of oxen paired up. They put a
trained one with one that has not been trained.
They walked together. That's what God is with us.
He's right beside us, walking and talking.
That's what God really wants for us in our worship.
[We came forward for communion today. Ralph Rohrer
assisted Pastor Dwight.]
