Assumptions About My Ministry as a DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT
REV. DR. C. ANTHONY HUNT I assume that as a servant leader, God calls me to a life of spiritual discipline, and that I am to rely on the Word of God to inform, inspire, empower and direct all aspects of my ministry. As integral parts of my spiritual life and growth, I am called to engage in disciplined prayer, study, fasting and abstinence. I assume that God calls all United Methodist clergy and lay leadership to lives of spiritual discipline and growth. Each of us is to engage in disciplined prayer, study of Scripture, fasting and abstinence. I assume that all United Methodist leaders have variously experienced the grace and love of God, and that God’s grace and love are freely offered to all. I assume that all United Methodists seek to know and share the history, traditions, and polity of Methodism and the whole Church. I assume that those who serve as pastors in Christ’s church love the church, and that we have committed our lives to sacrificial witness that promotes the sharing of the Gospel of Christ, the discipling of the community of faith, and service to the whole world. I assume that God calls United Methodists to community-building, and that in our life together, we are invited to engage in accountable discipleship. Thus, we are accountable to both God and each other for the ministry we share. I assume that as servant leaders we are called to intentional, rigorous life-long learning as a means of making our theology and practice of ministry congruent and relevant for the present age. I assume that God created the Church to be an inclusive community, and that God invites all servant-leaders to form, facilitate and foster relationships across cultures, ethnicities, genders, theological perspectives and other forms of difference. |
