Education

Sunday School 2008/2009 - On most Sundays, students begin their day in the Sanctuary where they participate in the worship service for the first twenty minutes. After the Pastor shares his children's sermon, the students leave for their individual classes. From September through May, we have three Sunday School classes. All of our classes use the Seasons of the Spirit curriculum.

  • Preschool through Kindergarten Class - Our youngest students are given many opportunities to use their imaginations and creativity as they explore a bible story each week and respond to it using various arts & craft supplies. We often get out musical instruments and sing songs as well.
  • 1st through 3rd Grade Class - This class will typically participate in an interactive reading of a bible story each week. The students are encouraged to enter into the world of the story by acting out parts or providing sound effects. We usually end the class with a creative project which is related to the story.
  • 4th through 6th Grade Class - These students are encouraged to explore the biblical stories at a deeper level They respond to what they have heard through discussions, games, improvisation, projects, and by utilizing relevant computer software.
  • 7th through 10th Grade Class - The teenagers in this class relate the bible passages they hear to current events and personal experiences. Their discussions are an opportunity to help connect their faith to their everyday life.
  • Youth Group - The Ballard Vale United Church Youth Group is open to all teenagers in 7th through 12th grade. Each year we engage in a variety of activities including a mix of service projects, fundraisers, fellowship events and field trips. Our primary goal is to maintain a strong connection between the Youth Group members and the church, while they figure out the ways in which their faith affects how they live in the world.
  • Junior Choir - The children and youth enjoy learning songs and performing them in front of the congregation as part of the Junior Choir. This group also participates in special services.
