Program
Services
Gum Moon Women's Residence provides transitional
housing facilities for women in transition. In 1984
Gum Moon established a community outreach project
known as the Asian Women's Resource Center (AWRC).
The AWRC provides a wide range of services for low
to moderate-income monolingual, and bilingual Asian
immigrant women, men, youth, and children. The AWRC
offers opportunities for cross-cultural experiences,
self-improvement and leadership development which
are open to all members of our community. Currently

Gum Moon is a safe, affordable residence for women
in transition (relocation, travel, etc.). A
multilingual staff provides supportive advice and
counseling to those in need. The staff encourages
interaction and activities among the residents,
creating a family atmosphere.
Rooms are available on a first come, first served
basis. Reservations are not taken. Call for

SURVIVAL ENGLISH CLASSES

The Survival
English Program provides a supportive environment
for students to develop their knowledge of
conversational English, American culture, and
survival skills. We offer courses for a variety of
levels, from beginning English to conversation. Our
A level courses are basic English, and B
intermediate. Classes are available during weekday
and Saturday mornings.

PARENT-CHILD DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The Parent-Child Development Program provides
structured pre-school activities for immigrant
children (infant to four years old) to develop their
motor, cognitve and social skills. Speech and mental
health, assessment and treatment are provided
on-site for the children. Parent support groups and
educational workshops help immigrant parents develop
effective parenting skills. Pre-registration is
required. This program has two satellite centers in
the Richmond and Sunset Communities, offering
comprehensive family support services.

SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAM

The Summer School provides academic tutorial and
socialization for low to moderate income children
(in grades 1 through 6) through daily classes,
cultural outings, and recreational activities. The
classes prepare children to excel and thrive during
the school year. Summer School lasts approximately 8
weeks, there is a charge, and pre-registration is
required.

aides and attending youth leadership workshops.

AFTER-SCHOOL TUTORIAL PROGRAM

The After-School Tutorial Program provides academic
tutorial for children in first through sixth grade.
Snack time, activity time, and enrichment work are
some fo the activities which the children also
participate in. There are two cycles per school
year: September through December, and January to
June. Pre-registration is required and a fee is
charged.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT TRAINING PROGRAM

The Pre-employment Training Program helps to
evaluate students' employment skills, and helps them
to get back into the job market. In this class,
students will learn the following: reading " Help
Wanted" ads; creating professional resume; writing
cover letters; completing job applications; and
using appropriate interview techniques.

CHI-GONG CLASSES

Chi-Gong is a series of breathing exercises designed
to relax the body and mind, and promote healthy body
functions. Classes are available in individual and
group settings. Pre-registration is required and a
fee is charged.

Many newcomers to the Chinatown community are in
need of vital services but do not know how or where
to obtain them. The AWRC provides assistance by
directing people to the appropriate agencies to meet
their needs.
CULTURAL, SOCIAL AND RECREATIONAL PROGRAMS

The AWRC promotes knowledge of Asian culture and
heritage, and encourages individuals to develop
their artistic abilities. The program includes Piano
