Goals 2008-2009
To know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ
Increase participation in the spiritual growth study across the district by at least 10% per year. Encourage every local unit to purchase and use the Prayer Calendar.
To develop a creative, supportive fellowship
Each Partner in Mission will contact her partner units at least twice a year. Partner in Mission (or other representative from Mission Team) will support new or reorganized units with monthly contact and semiannual visit. Send at least one communication annually to pastors in churches without UMW units.
To expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
Increase by 10% annually the number of units with a “balanced,” diverse program:
Mission Today Mission studies Charter Club for Racial Justice Reading Program At least one attendee at the annual Legislative Event At least one attendee at the annual School of Christian Mission Encourage local units to make a pledge each year, with special effort to educate/motivate units to meet the district Mission Giving pledge of $60,000 annually. Promote United Methodist Women’s commitment to peace by wearing yellow peace ribbons at all events and having them available for members at district events. Inform each local unit and help them to implement the 2008-09 SWT Conference UMW Social Action Issue.
PURPOSE of UMW: The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, to develop a creative, supportive fellowship, and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
