Hill United Methodist Men hosted the first quarterly men's meeting of
2008. The program consisted of a presentation by Tracy Guthrie,
Partnership and Marketing Associate, Big Brothers Big Sisters of
Central Texas. The purpose of the meeting was to introduce "Amachi" a
mentoring program much like Big Brothers, Big Sisters. Amachi is
different in that it is for children of incarcerated parents. The word
Amachi is a Nigerian word that means, “Who knows what God has brought
us through this child?” As part of their regular giving the men collected 164 pairs of socks, 3 pair of kahki pants, 1 dry cleaned suit, and a check for $100 to buy Bibles for the Austin Resource Center for the Homelsess (A.R.C.H.) |
