Amachi

Amachi is a mentoring program of the Big Brothers, Big Sisters organization and is for children of incarcerated parents.  The word Amachi is a Nigerian word that means, “Who knows what God has brought us through this child?” The purpose of this program is to break the intergenerational cycle of crime and incarceration, and to give children of incarcerated parents a chance to reach their highest potential.  Amachi Texas is a joint initiative between the Office of the Governor, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, the Texas Workforce Commission, OneStar Foundation, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Texas.  The United Methodist Men have joined in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters.  For more information see the Amachi website.  If you are interested in making a difference in a child's life, check this program out.
