Quarterly District Breakfast Meetings

The May Austin District UMM breakfast is scheduled for Saturday, May 15, 2010.  More details will be provided at a later date, but don't forget to bring white socks or other clothing for homeless men.

The previous Austin District Breakfast meeting was hosted by Northwest Hill UMC.  Ralph Thompson, President of the SWTX Conference UMM, gave an excellent presentation about men in the church.  Pictures of the event can be seen here.

Austin District UMM 'YES' Golf Tournament

golf courseThe Austin District UMM will be hosting a Golf tournament May 8, 2010 at Blackhawk Golf Club located at 2714 Kelly Lane, Pflugerville TX 78660 (Map).  Say "YES" to Youth which stands for Youth Eager for Scholarships.  This tournament will benefit Austin District Youth by providing deserving Youth with scholarships for Methodist sanctioned activities such as scout camps and UMYF retreats.  Those benefiting will be Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, and Campfire USA Youth in addition to youth attending UMYF retreats.  For more details about applying for a Youth scholarship, please click the Scholarship link.

Tournament Details:

  1. May 8, 2010 at the Blackhawk Golf Club.  The event begins at noon with lunch and driving range followed by tee times starting at 2:00 PM
  2. Entry fee per player is $60 which includes green fees, cart, practice range balls, and lunch buffet
  3. There will be a "Closest to the Pin" contest and a "Longest Drive" contest
  4. Hole Sponsor Sign Fee - minimum level will be $100.  Signs will be posted on the tee box for the sponsored hole and listed in available handouts of all sponsors
  5. The first and second place teams will each receive a “Foursome free round of golf”
  6. Every participant will receive a free "Greens Fee" pass
  7. We encourage each church in the Austin area to field a team and enjoy the outing (and also sponsor a hole!)

Gil Hanke Named General Secretary

Gil Hanke has been selected as the new General Secretary of the national UMM organization and will take over the reigns February 1, 2010.  Mr. Hanke was the first layman to serve as president of the General Commission on United Methodist Men (2005-2008); and has served as president of UMM in his local church, district, and annual conference.  He has also served as president of the National Association of Conference Presidents of United Methodist Men.  For more information about the appointment, please click here.
