| Constitution for the Austin Texas District Organization of United Methodist Men Article 1 Name The name of the organization shall be the Austin Texas District Organization of United Methodist Men, chartered and certified annually by the General Commission on United Methodist Men. Article 2 Purpose The purpose of the Austin Texas District Organization of United Methodist Men is to make disciples for Jesus Christ and be doers of the word in all their relations. Article 3 Function The function of the Austin Texas District Organization of United Methodist Men shall be to work with the local units of United Methodist Men in developing programs to meet the needs and interests of men and the concerns and responsibilities of discipleship; to assist in personal witness and evangelism; to enable outreach in individuals and group mission and ministry; to encourage and support spiritual growth and faith development; and to promote the objectives and responsibilities of the General Commission on United Methodist Men. Article 4 Membership The Austin Texas District Organization of United Methodist Men shall be composed of all members of all local units (chartered or unchartered) within the bounds of the Austin Texas District of the United Methodist Church. The Bishop, District Superintendents, and the District Lay Leader shall be ex-officio members. Article 5 Organization The Austin Texas District Organization of United Methodist Men is authorized in the Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church. This organization may be divided into sub-districts when necessary, with election of appropriate officers. Article 6 Meetings The Austin Texas District Organization of United Methodist Men shall hold meetings as specified in the by-laws. Article 7 Officers The elected officers of the Austin Texas District Organization of United Methodist Men shall be: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Officers shall be elected for two years and may be re-elected for one additional two-year term. The Secretary and Treasurer shall be elected to terms beginning in even years. The President and Vice President shall be elected to terms beginning in odd years. At the completion of his first two-year term the Vice President will automatically be nominated to run unopposed for President. Other officers may be appointed as needed by the steering committee. These appointed officers will also serve two-year terms and may be reappointed indefinitely. These appointed officers would normally include but not be limited to a Prayer Advocate, a Spiritual Advisor, and a Scouting Coordinator. Article 8 Steering Committee The steering committee of the Austin Texas District Organization of United Methodist Men shall be composed of the following: all elected officers, all appointed officers, and all committee and task force chairpersons. The immediate Past President shall serve as an ex-officio member of the steering committee with the power to vote. Article 9 Coordination The work of the Austin Texas District Organization of United Methodist Men shall be coordinated with the total program of the district and The Southwest Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church. Article 10 Finances The program of the Austin Texas District Organization of United Methodist Men shall be financed by such means as the members may approve on the recommendation of the steering committee or other appropriate committee or task force. Article 11 By-laws By-laws in harmony with this constitution may be adopted by two-thirds majority of all members present at a regular or called meeting provided thirty (30) day notice is given to the Secretary to permit distribution of information to the officers and local units. Article 12 Amendment to this Constitution This constitution may be amended by two-thirds majority vote of all members present at a regular or called meeting provided thirty (30) day notice is given to the Secretary to permit distribution of information to the officers and local units. |
