  • "Amachi, Break the Chain", a ministry to boys of incarcerated parent/s - Tracy Guthrie, Partnership and Marketing Associate, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas
Amachi is a mentoring program for children of incarcerated parents. The word Amachi is a Nigerian word that means, “Who knows what God has brought us through this child?”
Amachi helps children reach their potential through professionally supported one-to-one relationships.
The children served are between the ages of 6 to 16
A one year commitment from both mentor and child is asked for.
The child is paired with an adult mentor based on similar interests so they can spend time with each other once a week. The “Big” and “Little” choose what they want to do when hanging out together. They may watch a movie, play basketball, do homework or simply just hang out.
The entire time you are matched with your Little Brother you have the professional support of the agency to help nurture the relationship into a long lasting one.
Many kids are on the waiting list to be paired with men willing to mentor.
  • "General Conference Update" - Jay Brim, Southwest Texas Conference Lay Leader
Jay will share the message and approach of the leadership at General Conference. He will discuss the direction we are going as a result of the actions taken, and the budget adopted for the United Methodist Church worldwide.
  • "Mobilizing Men to Pray" - Matt Bryant, Member of Bethany UMC and Member Austin District United Methodist Men Steering Committee.
This session will focus on helping men to pray in different ways. Matt Bryant has a passion for prayer and will talk about a group the men at his church started called the prayer ninjas. The prayer ninjas are a group of adventurous men roaming the City of Austin praying for healing for our land. Visit http://www.prayerninja.com for more info.
  • "United Methodist Men Overview, What you Need to Know" - John Walters, Training Coordinator for Austin District United Methodist Men
John will discuss: What is a UMM program?  What do you do?  How do I start?  Join John Walters in a fast paced overview of UMM to kick start your program and share ideas with others.
