Exploring
Bible Based Racism
The case of the Christian Identity Movement
This
presentation and seminar will consider the Biblical
interpretations and historic philosophical foundations
that have supported the contemporary white supremacy
movement as represented in "Christian Identity".
These groups sustain a worldview in which God
(Yahweh) has made a covenant with white people
to claim North America
as a new Israel and resist all attempts of government,
church, and society to make this realm multicultural,
tolerant, or otherwise inclusive of differing
types of people. This event will help participants
understand the movement's
definitions of genetic Biblical history. race,
sacred space, and theocracy; and to explore
strategies to prevent and counter such racist
and violent social behavior which may be influencing
our local churches and communities. Participants
need to come prepared to critically
examine the use of Biblical material in constructing
national identity, and fostering antagonistic
relationships between church and society, in the
context of an increasingly globalizing world community.
