ALBRIGHT UNITED METHODIST CHURCH ACTIVITIES IN NOVEMBER, 2009 |
| Back in September, Donna Evans' children's sermonette challenged the children to see if they could fill a big bottle with pennies to be given at Christmas to a family that needed some help. Donna's children's sermonette on November 22, included being thankful for little things, including pennies that had filled the bottle by the Sunday before Thanksgiving. |

Albright United Methodist Church held its Thanksgiving Dinner following Worship on December l5, 2009 in our Fellowship Hall. |
| The Open Door Class hosted the dinner and provided the turkey. A large basket for donations toward denominational apportionments was at the head of the table. $1400 was donated which will be matched up to $1000 in a challenge gift. We praise the Lord and thank all who came and helped. |
| On the dessert table there were desserts and also a list of names of people for whom our members were thankful to for help they had received from them in their faith development. The youth had a thanksgiving tree on the dessert table with leaves listing things for which they were thankful. |

NOVEMBER 8TH WAS VETERANS RECOGNITION SUNDAY.
Litany For Veterans Day World War I ended on November 11, 1918, with the signing of the Armistice by the Allies and Germany. In the first Armistice Day proclamation in 1919, President Woodrow Wilson called for the nation to remember those who had died in their country’s service and to make the day an opportunity for America to “show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nation.” Armistice Day became Veterans’ Day by an act of Congress in 1954. President Eisenhower called on the nation to remember the sacrifices of those who fought in all our nation’s wars, to celebrate the contributions of all veterans of military service, and to rededicate ourselves to the task of promoting an enduring peace. It is Eisenhower’s call that remains the three-fold purpose of Veterans’ Day: remembering those who fought and died, celebrating all veterans, and promoting an enduring peace. Today, we come to honor all who have served in our country, both in war and in peace. Let us give thanks to God for the land of our birth with all its chartered liberties. For all the wonder of our country’s story: We give you thanks, O God. For leaders in nation and state, and for those who in days past and in these present times have labored for the commonwealth: We give you thanks, O God. For those who in all times and places have been true and brave, and in the world’s common ways have lived upright lives and ministered to their fellows: We give you thanks, O God. For those who served their country in its hour of need, and especially for those who gave even their lives in that service: We give you thanks, O God. Let us pray. God of the ages, we thank You for all who have served in the armed forces of this country. We thank You for the freedom their sacrifice has earned and guarded for us. Help us to prize this freedom and use it well. We ask You to bless all living veterans in a special way today, as well as the families of all veterans. Comfort those who grieve for those who gave the last full measure of devotion. Strengthen those who bear physical, emotional, and spiritual wounds. Stand with those who provide care to them. Move us to reach out to sisters and brothers who are veterans, or relatives of veterans, or who currently serve in the military. We pray for the day when no one needs to serve in the military. Help us to live now in anticipation of that day, as people who long for peace, who pray for peace, and who seek to be peacemakers in this world. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen Will the Veterans in attendance please stand.
For the family members who have made great sacrifices in order to make it possible for their service members to be on watch at home or around the world or to go into harm’s way, We ask for your blessing. For the families who grieve the death of a member who went in harm’s way, never to return, We ask for your blessing. O almighty God and most merciful Father, as we remember these your servants, remembering with gratitude their courage and strength, we hold before you those who mourn them. Look upon your bereaved servants with your mercy. As this day brings them memories of those they have lost awhile, may it also bring your consolation and the assurance that their loved ones are alive now and forever in your living presence. Let us pray. Keep all our veterans in your care today. Grant them the peace they sought to preserve for others. As we honor our veterans, we also pray for peace. Teach all your people the ways of peace that those who have sacrificed so much for peace and freedom will not have done so in vain. We pray all these things in the name of your son, our savior, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. | CHICKEN AND NOODLES WERE THE ORDER OF THE DAY AFTER THE VETERANS DAY PARADE ON NOVEMBER 7TH. Russell Allen walked the whole parade route in his World War 2 uniform. He was served lots of chicken and noodles to eat and to take home. The Journey of Hope Sunday School Class made noodles for three days and sold them all in a couple of hours. We thank them for the delicious meal and praise the Lord for the nice weather for the parade and for people to get out to the chicken noodle dinner at Albright United Methodist Church.
