Katie S. Warren Program Education Consultant
"The United Methodist purpose statement for the educational ministries of our congregations reads: "Through Christian education, we invite people and communities to be transformed as they are inspired and challenged to: know and experience God through Jesus Christ, claim and live God's promises, grow and serve as Christian disciples" (Foundations, p. 5). There are many distractions in the world, which lure us from the church and the things of God. We all lead busy lives and often decide to cut from our schedule those things that encourage us in our faith journey. Many folks no longer have the Christian foundation to guide them in making life choices and decisions. Some of the ways many of us learned what to do and how to live were by attending Sunday school, youth fellowship, Wednesday night services or other programs. The Asheville District is fortunate to have the services of a Program Education Consultant to assist churches in establishing and reaching Christian Education goals.

Rev. Amy Rio-Anderson United Methodist Campus Ministry
Since 1992, the Asheville District has operated the United Methodist Campus Ministry at the University of North Carolina at Asheville. Prior to this time, there was no United Methodist presence on campus. The UMCM is now widely known on campus. Our activities include weekly meetings, Bible study, prayer, worship, fun and fellowship outings, meetings with other United Methodist college students around the state, and with an emphasis on service projects. Other special events throughout the year include the following: an annual speaker for Women's History Month; an annual Springs Break Mission trip; a celebration of Black History Month; and a "Poverty Simulation" in conjunction with the Affordable Housing Coalition which challenge both students and faculty who attend.
