An Introduction by Dr. Lewis C. Gibbs Asheville District Superintendent
Western North Carolina in general, and Asheville, North Carolina in particular is the very best place to live on the face of this planet! A while back, Dottie and I were sitting on our back porch on one of those warm, sultry days that happens in Asheville only infrequently, and a cool breeze blew down the valley behind our house and across the porch. I looked at Dottie and she looked at me and I said, "Ain't God good?" Dottie replied, "Yes, God is good!' A few moments passed as we soaked up the cool breeze and enjoyed the singing birds and the humming bird that flirted around the hanging basket on the porch. I said, "If God is good, and we know that he is, we will never, ever have to live east of Asheville again!" We have built a retirement house at Lake Junaluska and when our work is finished here in Asheville, that's where we will go to spend the rest of our lives together. I am in my fifth year as the Asheville District Superintendent. Bishop Charlene P. Kammerer has graced me with the privilege of serving here in these mountains with the ninety churches that are dotted in and among the many mountainsides and valleys, working with eighty-four pastors who lead and minister to over twenty thousand United Methodist here in six counties making up the Asheville District. To really get to know the Asheville District, you must come and visit us!
