SHARE Food Program at Asbury

 

The SHARE program provides low-cost food for ANYONE who wants to save money on their grocery bills. There is no financial requirement. SHARE makes this possible by purchasing food in bulk and using volunteers to distribute the food nationwide.

As a mission project Asbury is now a distribution point for SHARE. Our hope is to help everyone with their food bills but especially to help those in need. Statistics show that about 1/3 of the people in Charleston’s East End do not have a car. Compounding this, the East End no longer has a grocery store. Asbury’s SHARE program makes low-cost food available monthly in our church’s neighborhood.

 

A monthly food order is $20 (plus WV tax) in cash, money order, or food stamps plus two (2) hours of community service. Monthly food packages include both fresh and frozen food. (See menu below) There is no limit on the number of food packages a participant may purchase. Community service is any volunteer activity, which benefits the community or an individual, for which one is not paid.  Many SHARE participants do this by helping box food on pickup day.

Pickup your food between 8-9am on date shown at Asbury UM Church, 501 Elizabeth Street, Charleston. Enter church at glass doors and come to Social Hall. SUPPER TIME! Convenience Entrees

We are excited to announce a new, ongoing package from one of our vendors.  In July we will offer the first package.  Each box will include seven, 14 oz. meals which are ready to cook in the oven or microwave.  Perfect for seniors or anyone else wanting a quick, easy, and nutritious meal.  Each meal will include 3-4 ounces of protein.  All sauces will be low fat and low salt, gravies, tomato or marinara sauces.  In July the first box of dinners will include the following:
