HOW WE FULFILL OUR MISSION
PRAYER PARTNERS
WHO? An open-ended group of
caring men and women who pray silently prior to
Sunday’s Worship Service. Everyone is welcome.
WHAT? A prayer focus is suggested to lift to
God.
It might be a person or a specific topic of concern.
WHERE? The sanctuary.
WHEN?
INVITATION: Join us! Experience God’s gift and blessing of prayer!
Worship
We gather to worship God every Sunday at 10:30 o'clock. Special services also are held during the year. They include two Christmas Eve services (one a candle lighting program that ends at midnight) and a communion service on Maundy Thursday. Some Sunday morning worship services feature special musical presentations or dramatic sketches. All these programs involve members of the congregations. Bell choirs, and a senior choir all contribute to the worship experience.
Education
Church School for persons of all ages meets every Sunday morning, September to July, starting at 9:00 o'clock. A staff of well-trained teachers serves children, youth, and adults.
An important part of the Church's education program is study groups that meet either in members' homes or at the church. This guided study is designed to lift the spirit as well as stretch the mind.
Outreach
In a number of ways members of the congregation reach out to help each other, community residents, and the people of the world.
Asbury reaches out to the community through participation in the community's Interfaith Council, Disciples' Pantry, and Habitat for Humanity are local mission concerns. Also, special programs on social issues have always been open to the general public.
Our mission commitments include an American Indian church, and United Methodist missions in Camden, the Philippines, and Africa.
Organizations
Three of the most active groups in the church are the United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF), the United Methodist Women (UMW), and the United Methodist Men (UMM). The UMW holds regular meetings that feature guest speakers on timely topics. Members also attend regional and state conferences, and the group presents several fund-raising events to support their local giving and special projects. The UMYF mixes worship, education, fellowship in its programs. Members also have formed a drama unit, Asbury Players, that puts on excellent plays. In addition, the Asbury Puppets appear in worship, Sunday School, and on special occasions. Spirit (music group) is the Church's band.
