A Message from the Pastor

MEMORIES

Each year the Christmas season, and the beginning of the new year, offer a time of remembering for me.  I have many good memories, so it is a joy to reflect.

The Birth of Christ reminds me, as each year unfolds, that life is a gift, and so is love.  What we really celebrate is love.  I am grateful that we continue to celebrate the birthday of the Living Christ.  I am also grateful for another opportunity to celebrate my life and appreciate all of the Christmas cards, gifts and ways you have celebrated Christmas with me.

Memories are important to life.  Someone said that a person is the composite of their accumulated memories over the years of their life.  Some of those memories are good memories, some of them are not so good, and some are bad memories.

I would like to suggest that you cherish the good memories, embrace them, and let them embrace you.  Recalling your good memories is a way of remembering that your life is important.

Second, I would encourage you not to be afraid to deal with bad memories.  Someone says, “That is too painful.”  I believe that the issue is not the memory, but rather how you handle it.  To try to push a memory down, like a rubber ball under the water so it cannot be seen, creates pain and depression, just as surely as allowing that pain to surface so you can deal with it.  So it is not a matter of having pain or no pain, it is a matter of dealing with your pain in a way in which there is healing, hope and health.  With the help of a compassionate, caring and capable counselor, pastor for friend, you can find peace.  And in all of your remembering, I urge you to remember Jesus.  He was hurt, he was crucified, yet he kept on loving, because he knew that this was the answer to not being victimized by life.  He wanted you to participate fully in the victory God makes possible for us all.  He is One who can deepen and enlarge all your good memories.  He can save you and help you find feeling, healing and hope again, in spite of the bad memories.

Each year during the Christmas season as the new year unfolds, these are the things that give me peace and hope.  Also I

remember how I have been loved, and that helps me look forward to new memories, and the possiblity of a happy new year.  I think it is possible for you as well.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee’s project for January and February will be a continuation of the collection of the coins following the children’s moment.  We will ask the children to particpate.

These coins will be added to the emergency fund.  The Pastor has access to the emergency fund to assist individuals who are in need and approach him.  The balance of the emergency fund is very low and these collections during January and February will assist in replenishing this fund.  Thank you in advance for your contributions.
