What Is U.M.W.

The Book of Discipline (1992 par 264.6) reads, “In every local church there shall be an organized unit of United Methodist Women.”

So what is U.M.W.?  It is not a social organization.  United Methodist Women seek to be:

--Followers of Jesus Christ who live their faith in acts of justice and mercy.

--Catalysts for needed change.

--Mobilizers of human and material resources

--Creators of new arenas of participation throughout the church and the world.

U.M.W. participate in God’s mission in all areas of life.  Our local unit defines mission as reaching out to share our love and faith with all of our neighbors.  All women of our local congregation are invited and encouraged to participate and join our local unit.  We currently meet on the second Tuesday of each month.  However, we realize that many are at work at this time.  Discussions are being held to consider moving the meetings to evenings to encourage more members to participate.  We ask that you take the time to pray for our local unit as we minister to others.

Grace -- is excited to welcome their new choir member, Pat Cummings.  Thanks to Pat and all choir members for sharing their talents in our Sunday worship service.  Also a big thank you to Kathryn George for her dedicated work as Choir Director.

Grace U.M.W. -- On February 16th, we will be traveling to Stella Mosler’s home in El Dorado Springs, MO.

Grace -- Chili and Soup Day is February 5th.  Hours are 11:00 am - 7:00 pm.  Cost is $4.00 for soup, pie and drink.  Funds are being raised for a new church sign.

(Q) What is the shortest chapter is the Bible? (A) Psalms 117

(Q) What is the longest chapter in the Bible? (A) Psalms 119

(Q) Which chapter is the center of the Bible? (A) Psalms 118

Fact:  There are 594 chapters before Psalms 118.

Fact:  There are 594 chapters after Psalms 118.

Add these numbers and you get 1188

(Q) What is the center verse in the Bible? (A) Psalms 118:8

(Q) Does this verse say something significant about God’s perfect will for our lives?  The next time someone says they would like to find God’s perfect will for their lives and that they want to be in the center of His will, just send them to the center of His Word!

Psalms 118:8 (NKJV) “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.”  Now isn’t that odd how this worked out, (or was God in the center of it)?

FEBRUARY 2004 NEWSLETTER

Notes from Pastor Jolene Stephenson

A very dear spiritual prayer partner of mine sent me this email and I would like to share it with all of you.

Directions to Our Father’s House

Make a Right onto Believeth Blvd.  Keep straight and go through the Green Light, which is Jesus Christ.

There, you must turn onto the Bridge of Faith, which is over troubled water.

When you get off the bridge, make a Right turn and Keep Straight.

You are on the King’s Highway-Heaven bound.

Keep going for three miles:  One for the Father, One for the Son, and One for the Holy Spirit.

Then exit off onto Grave Blvd.

There, make a Right turn on Gospel Lane.

Keep straight and then make another Right on Prayer Road.

As you go on your way, Yield Not to the traffic on Temptation Ave.

Also, avoid Sin Street, because it is a Dead End.

Pass up Envy Drive, and Hate Avenue.

Also, pass Hypocrisy Street, Gossiping Lane, and Backbiting Blvd.

However, you have to go down Long-suffering Lane, Persecution Blvd, and Trials and Tribulations Ave.

But that is alright, because Victory Street is ahead.

Well, these are all pretty simple directions.  Exactly what we will go through to get to our Father’s House.  I would just like to say to all of you, if anyone should get lost as we sometimes do, don’t be afraid to stop by and ask for directions.
