THE UNITED METHODIST APPALACHIAN MINISTRY NETWORK
The attached
application is for the purpose of gathering information so that
consideration may be given for funding through the General Advance
Special [#982039-6]
Projects submitted
from this source must be church related, located in Appalachia
and/or show that a significant number of persons to be served are
Appalachian.
Projects submitted
for funding must address the root causes of hunger and poverty,
and meet one or more of the following criteria.
- Projects should enable
targeted communities to become self reliant in food
production and/or acquisition of food to sustain life
within a 3-5 year period.
- Hunger and food programs
that are committed to changes in the economic base.
- Economic development
programs that provide skill training and market outlets
for the unemployed and the underemployed.
- Housing, health care, and education programs.
- Advocacy through programs
that monitor legislation on hunger and poverty and enable
individuals, especially children, to have proper health
and nutrition.
- Emergency response to
operating programs or to initial start-up funds for new
programs.
- Project objectives should
be measurable and accomplishable within a period not to
exceed three years.
- Project outcomes should
serve to maximize resources and systems to benefit the
greatest number of people.
- Projects should have
indigenous Christian leadership wherever possible.
NOTE: Applications seeking grants for salary or grants submitted for general support by already designated General Advance Special projects will not be considered.
Resources are
limited; grants usually range from $500 to $2500
Applications are
considered twice a year. Deadlines: March 1 and September 1
No project will
receive funding more than once a year and should not assume
continuous funding (funding may be limited to no more than 3
years per project).
Please submit all
the information requested. Answer all questions succinctly, and
on as few sheets as possible. Please do not include more than
requested.
Applications
should not exceed 6 pages, including financial information.
