WELCOME, FRIEND!

If you are a new resident to (or traveler through) the Anacortes area - or anticipate such in the near future, WELCOME! We pray that you find our community a wholesome, healthy, and beautiful place in which to be! Whether you are with us for one Sunday - or a life-time - WELCOME!

As United Methodists, we have a long history of welcoming others into our family. We truly strive to live our motto: Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors. We seek to be an avenue through which each person we meet experiences the love of God in a deeply personal and life-giving way! In the name of God: WELCOME!

Sunday Worship Services

Throughtout most of the year, we gather for worship twice each Sunday:

9:00 a.m. Casual Service ~ contemporary music, casual dress, and
intentionally informal, multi-generational and family-friendly.

11:00 a.m. Traditional Service ~ more traditional in music and liturgy,
based on the United Methodist Hymnal and additional music from The Faith We Sing. The choir sings during this service.

Dramatic presentations of scripture and lessons are incorporated into each worwhip service.

Children's Sunday School and Infant Care

Sunday School for children ages 5 -- 12 is held during the 9:00 service.

Children attend the first part of the service with their parents, then go to the Sunday School room or Noah's Room after the Children's Moment.

Infant Care for toddlers through kindergarten age is available at both services.

Fellowship with Friends

Coffee Hour: Join us after either the 9:00 or 11:00 service for an hour or so of coffee and snacks. It's a great way to learn more about our church and get to know some of our members.

United Methodist Women meet monthly for lunch with guest speakers and programs. For information on their outreach activities, see below.

Men's Breakfast is at 7:30 a.m. every Tuesday morning in the meeting room at San Juan Lanes bowling alley, 2021 Commercial Ave. Visitors are always welcome.

Women's Breakfast is at 8:30 a.m. Thursday mornings. It's at Stork's Restaurant in the bowling alley at 2021 Commercial Ave, and visitors are always welcome.

Fellowship Potluck meets as an informal group on the third Saturday of the month for pot luck dinner and a guest speaker. Call the Church Office for more details.

Music and Dance Ministry

Chancel Choir under the direction of Lynne Rheinhardt provides choral music for the 11:00 services. Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m., but see this month's schedule to verify exact times. All voices are welcome -- especially tenors and basses.

Praise Ensemble, directed by Joy Kane, is a women's vocal group which offers special music for selected services, and during the Christmas season sings carols at several local retirement inns. Rehearsals are typically on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m.

Worship Team is an instrumental/vocal group that leads music for the 9:00 services. All types of instruments and vocalists are welcome. Call Joy Kane or the Church Office for more information.

Liturgical Dance is a multi-generational group that provides inspirational dance at special times throughout the year. Get in touch with Andra Schaub through the Church Office to learn more.

Spiritual Growth

Amazing Grace Workshops are an opportunity to learn more about our Methodist heritage and the spiritual legacy of John Wesley in an informal setting. These workshops, led by Pastor Dick and a number of experienced United Methodists, are held at announced times throughtout the year. The next session will be scheduled in January 2008.

Adult Sunday School meets between the two worship services in Boyd Hall. We discuss the Bible passages appointed for that Sunday to understand them better and consider how they apply to our lives today.

Adult Brown Bags are held on Tuesdays from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. in Boyd Hall. These are open minded and stimulating series of discussions exploring various aspects of our faith. Bring your own lunch and join us for lively learning. See "Coming Events" on our webpage for more information.

Outreach to Our Community and the World

The Outreach Committee stimulates and coordinates outreach many activities into our community.

Among the local activities we regularly support are: the Anacortes 100 Food Bank, Disaster Preparedness (UMCOR), Dinner at the Brick, Friendship House, Habitat for Humanity, Heifer International, Lunches for Needy Children, and the Anacortes Community Shelter.

United Methodist Women meet monthly for lunch with guest speakers and programs that provide information about outreach opportunities, enrich spiritual growth and enhance supportive fellowship. Call the Church Office to find out about the next meeting.

The Caring Committee meets every Thursday morning at 9:30 to send out cards to visitors and members of our congregation for sympathy, birthdays, anniversaries and support.

Overseas Missions that we currently support include the Jamaa Letu Orphanage in the Congo and missionary Paul Jeffrey.

How Can You Participate?

God has blessed each one of us with many gifts, skills, talents, passions and resources.

If you feel called to serve and share of your God-given gifts and passions within our faith community, there are many opportunities: worship leaders, ushers and greeters, rejoicing in music groups, serving as teachers of Christian education, nursery care, property maintenance, church office assistance, hospitality at coffee/fellowship hours, men's and women's groups, local outreach projects, and short-term volunteer mission programs.

Or you can pursue your own special calling. You'll find support for it here. Contact our Lay Leader, Andra Schaub, through the Church Office at (360) 293-0604.
