Love Slams The Door

Abiding in Christ is not immunity from trials and tribulation but peace in the midst of them. God’s guidance is often by shutting doors. Love slams doors as well as opening them.

Joy in our Christian life is the results of faithful, trusting acceptance of God’s Will when it doesn’t seem to be joyous.

Paul had learned this lesson of slammed doors when he said “our light affliction, which is but for a moment, works for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory” We need to expect rebuffs from our Lord until this is learned – it is the only way.  Man’s way leads to a joyless end – God’s way leads to endless joy!

Understanding Sponsorship
(From the Emmaus Library booklet, “Sponsorship”)

When presenting The Walk to Emmaus, always present it in a positive way.  Affirm people in their own walk with the Lord.  Be open and honest about the weekend and answer any questions that arise.

Wise, intentional sponsorship is the foundation for building renewal in the church.  Sponsors need to carry out the details of sponsorship seriously and conscientiously. Once you decide to be a sponsor, include God as your guide and counselor.  The intent of The Walk to Emmaus is to develop leaders who will return to the church—God’s church—and revitalize the congregation.  Since it is God’s church, God knows best who is needed when and for what.  Each step of sponsorship must include God’s guidance.

As stated in “The Upper Room Handbook on Emmaus”:

The personal character of sponsorship underlines  the personal care and commitment of God to each pilgrim.

The fact that the Emmaus experience is passed on from person to person reflects the relational nature of God and the manner in which God reaches out to people through people.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships are available for Pilgrims from this area for the $75 deposit from the Arlington/Mid-Cities Fourth Day Group.  If the Pilgrim or Sponsor is unable to fund the remaining $100, we suggest that you first contact your, or other, Reunion Groups or perhaps even your church to see if they can help.  If no other source of funding can be found, you can request a scholarship for the $100 balance from the Central Texas Conference Walk to Emmaus.  Attach a note to the application requesting a scholarship

Memorial or Honoring Scholarships:

Anyone can honor a loved one, friend, or sponsor by giving a scholarship in their name or as a memorial to that person.  All scholarship funds will be used to pay the $75 application fee for an Emmaus Walk, for a pilgrim or team member. Make the check payable to Arlington Mid-Cities Emmaus Community and mail it to the treasurer at the address above or drop it in the collection plate at one of our community gatherings on the 4th Friday of the month. The name of the person you are honoring will be published in the next newsletter.
