First United Methodist Church |
![]() The leader of this congregation is the Lord Jesus Christ. All
members and participants in this church family are his followers. Since
Jesus came to serve, we believe that is our job, too.

About Our Pastor:
Mary K. Rarden was appointed as pastor of the Alvord/Sunset Charge
in June of 1997. She lives in our parsonage with two cats and a whole lot
of books and Blue Willow china. Mary leads our worship, preaches, teaches
several classes, sings and plays flute every now and then, assists Tracy
with youth youth activities, and visits with us. In all her free time she
fusses at the computer, writes, reads, makes antique and floral arrangements
for Tracy's shop, crochets, and enjoys meeting folks on her local rounds
around Alvord. Mary earned a bachelor's degree in church music from East
Carolina University, has completed over half the work for the Master of
Divinity degree at Perkins School of Theology, and currently holds a local
pastor's license in the North Texas Conference.
About Our Youth Director:
Tracy Randall has lived in Alvord for six years, where she and her
husband Tim make their home with their four children: Claire, Mary, Eleanor,
and Joseph. She is a member of First Church and came on the church
staff this past spring. Besides doing the hardest and most rewarding
job in the world (being a mom), Tracy is excited about her work with the
children and teenagers of the First Church family. She recently launched
Children's Worship (for children 2 years old through Kindergarten); be
sure to visit the new Children's Chapel to see what they've been up to.
In addition to planning and leading our kids' and youth activities and
keeping us organized in the office, Tracy is an avid interior decorator,
crafter, and baker. She also owns the Franklin Street Market, an
antique and gift shop on (you guessed it) Franklin Street in Alvord.
We are enjoying her decorating skills at the church's main building and
the Wickham Street annex; drop by and see what a difference she's made.
The Walk to Emmaus
Emmaus is a renewal movement within The United Methodist Church, though
Christians of many other denominations also participate. Centered around
a unique 72-hour retreat, the Walk to Emmaus is a "short course in Christianity"
which is intended to build leaders and faithful disciples for the church
of Jesus Christ. 14 of our members have participated in the Walk (or its
youth and young adult afilliated organization, Chrysalis) to date. Perhaps
Emmaus is what you've been looking for. Try this link to learn more: Emmaus
