A Letter From Our Pastor...
Greetings,
We welcome you to our Algiers United Methodist Church web site. We have a saying here in New Orleans, “Laissez Les Bons Temps Roulez!” or "let the good times roll". This is the city that care forgot. Yes, it is a city where you can have fun and see lots of interesting things and places. But, at Algiers United we are a church that cares.
We participate in and support many different ministries in our local community and beyond. Some of these ministries include: providing shelter for the homeless, meals for the hungry, assistance with health needs, Christmas for children of incarcerated parents, House of Ruth, United Churches of Algiers, and Habitat for Humanity.
We provide space for STAIR to help children with reading, and we house college students that work with school children for test preparation and work with Habitat for Humanity. We also provide housing for No Greater Love Ministries, a street ministry during Mardi Gras.
On a lager scale, we support UMMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) by providing flood buckets, health kits, and school kits. We also support several missionaries, and many other ministries sponsored by the United Methodsit Church.
Our church activities include Sunday School, Worship, Youth Fellowship, Disciple Bible study, mid-week Bible study, Reading Club, United Methodist Women, United Methodist Men, handbell choir, and our adult choir that assist in weekly worship. One other event we enjoy is eating together. We have some of the best cooks in the area and we celebrate many times throughout the year around a banquet table.
It is our hope that you will visit us soon. Our Sunday schedule is Sunday School at 9:00 AM, Worship at 10:15 AM, and Youth fellowship at 4:00 PM. You can find us at 637 Opelousas Avenue, New Orleans, Louisiana.
Your Friend, Rev. Walter Parker, Jr. Pastor
