Our Philosophy

At Aldersgate United Methodist Preschool, your child learns through play.  Your child will be in a busy, happy, creative classroom for a fun-filled learning environment.  Activities are designed for creative thinking, questioning and listening.  As we bridge the gap from home to school, we guide children to a continued good self-image while building social skills in a school setting.  Our program allows development of the whole child—intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically.

A typical day begins with a greeting from the teachers.  Your child starts his/her day with "free choice" of play in the small manipulative area, where toys are available for solitary or group play.  Next comes "circle time"—an interactive session between the students and teachers focusing on listening skills, finger plays, singing and talking about the art lesson of the week.  It also includes discussing the calendar and weather.  We say our pledge of allegiance and review our letters, numbers, shapes and colors.  Art and Interactive Play are next.  The child experiences an assortment of activities while making something to be proud of.  During the interactive playtime, children are developing their sharing, talking and cooperative play skills.  By this time, your child is ready for a snack.  Snacks are provided by each in turn.  Your child will be proud to bring a snack on his/her day.  Classes end with a variety of experiences.  Sometimes your child will have free time on the playground or play outdoor games.  In cold weather he/she will be playing inside with balls, hula-hoops, balance beams and other large muscle equipment.  Your child will also experience the "outside world" by going on field trips to places like: an apple orchard, a farm, National Institute for Fitness & Sports, and Eagle Creek Nature Center.

Preschool for 4 year olds—Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 9:00am-11:20am
