About Aldersgate Homes, Inc. & What We Do

Aldersgate Homes, Inc. is a related agency of the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church serving persons with developmental disabilities. Established in 1991, we partner with United Methodist Churches and other individuals, groups and organizations to provide services to the developmentally disabled, their families, congregations, care givers and communities. Aldersgate Homes, in donor partnerships and assisted by public and private service providers, provides developmentally disabled individuals with safe, comfortable, affordable housing. We oversee residents in group homes and independent living residences. Our facilities are located across north Georgia. Group homes serve persons whose disabilities are such that they require around the clock care and supervision. Working with public providers, we help meet this need with three groups homes, each housing four adults. Two of our group homes serve men and one serves women. Independent living facilities are entirely supported with church, civic, and individual contributions. We help provide housing for adults in roommate situations, accessible to their families, workplaces and public transportation, and encourage community involvement. Persons with developmental disabilities are underserved. Georgia ranks near the bottom of states in support for disabled citizens. Public funding for housing and services to the developmentally disabled is decreasing, placing these already vulnerable persons at greater risk. This is a stressful situation for the disabled and their families, who provide the vast majority of their care. As longevity increases and elderly parent caregivers "age out" of their role as major care providers, concerns for their adult children's future needs arise. Aldersgate Homes offers hope.
