Who We Are
Aldersgate Homes, Inc. was established as a ministry of the North Georgia
Conference United Methodist Church in 1991. We have been partnering with
United Methodist Churches across the North Georgia Conference to provide
services to the developmentally disabled in the years since then.
Over the past 16 years, Aldersgate Homes, in partnership with local congregations,
and assisted by public and private service providers, has provided developmentally
disabled individuals with safe, comfortable, affordable housing. We oversee
residents in 3 group homes, 2 apartments, and a condominium. Our facilities
are located in 5 of the 12 districts of the conference.
Gifts to Aldersgate Homes from individuals, and from "Partner" small
groups and local churches that make it possible for us to continue to in
ministry to the developmentally disabled and their families. "Partners" in
our ministry contribute a specified amount on a regular basis. These churches,
UMW's, UMM's, UMYF's, Sunday School classes, and other small groups are our
backbone. We count on our "Partners" for assurance of funding
to continue and expand our ministries. Individual contributions, honor
and memorial gifts made to Aldersgate Homes are tax deductible and an acknowledgement
of your gift is sent to the one you have so honored or remembered.
Aldersgate Homes' major funding comes through your gifts to the Aldersgate
Homes Conference-Wide Offering each December. Almost 60% of our operating
expenses come from this offering. Local churches that do not have a specific
ministry to the developmentally disabled use this offering opportunity through
the N GA Conference connection to support Aldersgate Homes' ministry as an
extension of their local ministries. We appreciate the churches that participate
in this offering opportunity.
There are many persons with developmental disabilities in Georgia, many
of whom are underserved in these economic times. Government funding for
housing and services to the developmentally disabled is decreasing, placing
these already vulnerable people at greater risk. This is a stressful situation
for the disabled and their families, who provide the vast majority of care
for them. As longevity increases, elderly parent/caregivers are "aging
out" of their ability to continue as major caregivers. In addition,
parents wonder what will become of their adult children as their own life
spans come to an end.
Aldersgate Homes offers hope. Together with our "Partners", we
can link local churches to potential residents on our waiting list. This "partner
church" arrangement has 2 parts:
- One or more churches commit to providing a monthly donation that
will assist Aldersgate Homes to subsidize rent so that
residents may live adequately on their incomes.
- Aldersgate Homes train volunteers to be mentors to our residents,
and assists their involvement in a variety of activities.
God
calls us to be in ministry to all His children. Aldersgate Homes
responds to this unique ministry to the developmentally disabled, partnering
with donors and volunteers who make this ministry possible. We invite
you to become a Partner with Aldersgate Homes in ministry to the developmentally
disabled and their families.
The Mission of Aldersgate Homes, Inc. is to:
Make a positive difference in the lives of persons with developmental disabilities through education, advocacy, and providing residential alternatives in an affordable, safe, and comfortable normalizing environment as they become community participants.
