We have a Sunday School program for people of all ages that meets from 9:50 to 10:40 a.m.
Sunday School for Children
Our Sunday School classes begin when a child has celebrated his/her 3rd birthday by Sept. 1 of the current year. The children meet in age-appropriate classes with trained volunteer teachers. Aldersgate uses a United Methodist curriculum to enhance their Christian learning.
Three and Four Year Olds: All children that will have their third or fourth birthday by September 1 of the current year are invited to join this class that is taught by Kim Kailey and Denise Mitchell.
Kindergarten, First and Second Graders: This class is taught by Debbie Fast, Sharon Page and Tiffany Brubaker.
Third and Fourth Graders: This class is taught by Karen Christiansen and Lynn Elliott. This class meets in Portable 1.
Fifth Graders: This class is taught by Kathleen Stephenson, Amy Forbus,
Jackie Malis and David Malis. This class meets in Portable 2.
Sunday School for Sixth Grade
The sixth grade Sunday School curriculum coordinates with their Confirmation Class so their learning is enriched. This class meets in portable 9.
Sunday School for Youth
"Bible to Life" applications is the approach taken on Sunday Mornings. Sunday School is designed to provide the basic elements of biblical knowledge and theological development.
- Junior High (7th and 8th): This class is taught by John Forbus, Lynn Seibert and Doug Effler. They learn about the Old Testament through reviewing the Bible stories, studying the culture of the Old Testament people, and playing Bible trivia once a month. The class meets in Portable Room 3.
- Senior High (9th through 12th): This class meets in the youth room and is led by Jay Johnston, John Stanley, Sharon Sullivan and Melissa Millikin. They study the New Testament and United Methodist Heritage, in addition to discussing faith exploration and ethical issues from a Christian perspective.
Sunday School for Adults
We have a growing number of adult Sunday School classes:
- Kaleidoscope
As a kaleidoscope produces a beautiful series of patterns, the class shares a desire to reshape its focus of study to include a never-ending collection of patterns resulting in a deeper relationship with God and others. The hope with both a kaleidoscope and this group's view of Christianity is that each time you look, you find something different and meaningful. This group emphasizes Christian study, fellowship, and service to others through local, national, and international mission efforts. The Kaleidoscope Class includes adults of a variety of ages, and all are welcome. The Kaleidoscope Class meets in Portable Room 7.
- Gateways
The goal of the Gateways class is Bible study at a pace and level that is comfortable for those new in their participation in church or religion. The class includes new Christians as well as seasoned participants, creating a comfortable environment for asking questions and sharing knowledge. An informal group with members of all ages, the class focuses not on covering material for the sake of getting through it, but covering the material so they can better understand it. The Gateways Class meets in Portable Room 8.
- Seekers
The Seekers class is a study group working its way through the Bible, and recently started a focus on the book of Romans. The group reads passages together and the leader asks questions for discussion using the study guide. Each class meeting begins with the meaningful tradition of sharing Joys & Concerns and a prayer with each other. Most members of the Seekers Class are parents. This gathering of friends is quite lively, filled with laughter, and always welcomes new participants. The Seekers Class meets in Portable Room 4.
- Women of Wisdom
Women’s Class is a WoW Experience!
On February 1, 2004 a new Sunday School class, Women of Wisdom, was formed by and for women in the Aldersgate congregational family. We meet in the Choir Room. We will explore our faith, what we believe about God and how our faith impacts our lives and decisions. We look forward to sharing our insights among other women and deepening our faith and our relationship with God and others. We look forward to welcoming new members to our class and fellowship. Please join us.
- Footprints
The Footprints Class meets in the sanctuary. This group explores Christian life in today’s world. Most of the members of this class are parents. They seek to follow in Jesus’ footprints so that they may guide those who follow behind them. This class welcomes all newcomers, and especially seeks to be a comfortable place for adults who are new to the Sunday School experience.
All of these classes welcome visitors and new members.
A nursery cares for infants and toddlers ages 3 and under during the Sunday School hour.
