A Message from Pastor WoodyIt has been my privilege to be assigned as the pastor of AUMC since June 16th of 2002. I am grateful for those who have preceded me in leadership at Aldersgate and for those who have made my ministry so enjoyable during my life. I am most grateful to my family, which includes Vanessa Vaughter Weilage who has been my life partner since June 4, 1998. Who is Pastor Woody?The name Woody has become more common since the movie Toy Story but when I was a child the two main references to Woody were either from “Woody Woodpecker” or Woodrow Wilson. I was not named after either one of them. My mother’s maiden name was Wood, and to keep part of her family tradition alive my name became Woodrow Alan Weilage.My beginnings go back to March 22, 1949 in Lincoln, Nebraska. I cannot recall a time when going to church was not a part of my life and my parents were definitely the most important influence on my spiritual journey. My father lived to be 93 and died Dec. 14th of 2001. My mother is still living and moved to Garland Texas on Jan. 16th 2002 that would have been their 64th anniversary. By the time I graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1971, my professors had created a desire to know more about my faith and in September of 1972, I entered Perkins School of Theology at SMU. My first marriage began in August of 1972 and was amicably dissolved in 1996. I am grateful to Kristie for the role she played in my life and most of all for giving me a wonderful son named Jordan, who was born in 1980. Jordan is a part-time student at Richland Junior College. My journey in ordained ministry started in Wichita Falls Texas as a youth minister from 1975-1979. Other stops along the way have included (in order) Archer City, Grand Prairie (Trailwood), FUMC Duncanville, (associate), Jacksboro, Garland(Buckingham), and Aldersgate. It is great to be in a church named for the “heart-warming” experience of John Wesley on April 24, 1738. Being at Aldersgate is truly a heart-warming experience.  And, speaking of heart-warming experiences my heart has been very blessed to receive the love and care of Vanessa Vaughter Weilage. Vanessa is currently working at Sprint PCS and she brings a wealth of experience and joy to the church family also. Vanessa has a Masters of Divinity degree from Duke. She is teaching the Confirmation Class and co-teaching the Disciple II class with me. She is also involved in the handbells and adult choir.Together we love to have company and play board games. When possible we like to fish, snow-ski, travel, and read. We also have plans to brush up on our ballroom dancing skills. We both have a passion for social justice issues and would love to be able to work more with Habitat for Humanity.
