The Music Ministry of AldersgateThroughout Aldersgate's history, our church family has been blessed with musical gifts. We use these gifts through our celebrations of worship, enabling us to express God's love to each other and everyone who hears.Director of Music MinistriesMike Link joined Aldersgate's staff as Director of Music Ministries in June 2006. He was born and raised in Farmington, Illinois, which is 25 miles west of Peoria. He holds a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Music Education from Western Illinois University in Macomb, and a Master of Music Education degree from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago. In addition, he has certification in church music from SMU: Perkins School of Theology, and course work in administration from Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi. He has taught instrumental and choral music in a variety of settings, from church kids' choirs to college courses, and currently teaches orchestra at Lewisville High School North. As a singer, he has been a member of the Dallas Symphony Chorus the p ast two years. He was featured three years ago in a solo with the chorus on the Annual 7-11 Christmas Concert at the downtown Meyerson. (This is what Mike calls his 45 seconds of fame.)Mike is very excited to be part of the staff at Aldersgate, with all the different facets of music ministry. Chancel ChoirFrom the very first Aldersgate worship service at Kent Elementary School, the Chancel Choir has been robed and ready to lead the congregation in musical celebration. The choir's first anthem, "Open Now Thy Gates of Beauty" by Ovid Young, affirmed Aldersgate's vision of becoming a church that combines and open and inclusive witness with a traditional setting. Our choir works at creating an atmosphere of harmony not just in its music but also in its actions.The choir practices on Wednesday nights from 7 to 8 pm. Morning SongWhat began is 1996 with two guitars and a few voices has blossomed into a full band for the 8:45 worship service. MorningSong leads the congregation in hymns each week, sometimes teaching new songs during worship, and plays anthems in a variety of musical styles. The groups composes some of their own songs, and frequently develops new arrangements of traditional hymns and worship music.MorningSong meets each Wednesday night at 8PM in the sanctuary. MorningSong includes Rik Moen, Julie Spaight, Amy Forbus, Eric Johnson, Jordan Seibert and Peter Robbins. Joyful VoicesThe Joyful Voices is our children’s choir made up of 3rd-5th graders. The children and their directors meet each Sunday evenings during the school year from 5:30-6PM and sing their praises during worship services throughout the year. This group is led by Nicci Thrower and Cathy Dreyer. Aldersgate Chamber Winds and BrassWe have been blessed with many wonderful instrumentalists through the years, both youth and adults. Our Chamber Winds plays for worship several times each year. Steve Seibert coordinates this amazing group of musicians. The Aldersgate RingersHandbells are ringing strong at Aldersgate! We have eleven ringers that are quickly advancing up the difficulty scale and learning many new techniques. |
