A
Note from our Pastor
Cruising the internet? I'm glad that you've
landed on our little corner of the virtual planet. There's so much
to get done these days! Perhaps your "to do" list includes "Find
a church home?" If so, kick back and take a look around. You'll
see a good sampling of what goes on here. While you know "a picture
says a thousand words," you also know that a picture of fresh-baked bread
still doesn’t compare to smelling it right out of the oven -- and better
yet, getting that first slice cut from the loaf.
So, feel free to look around! If you have any
questions, I hope you'll e-mail or call the church office.
The Aldersgate United Methodist Church is 45 years
old and has a long, rich history of caring. Our style of worship
can best be described as blended. To some that means we are "neither
fish nor foul;" in truth, we work hard to create an environment that welcomes
people of all ages.
I believe that effective churches are full of people
who have great faith and are watchful of the Holy Spirit’s leading. Faith,
risk, discipleship and obedience are part of the essence of following the
Holy Spirit. A great church is one that constantly risks by following
God’s Spirit to places and needs where the possibility of the unknown is
greater than the known, and the possibility of failure is sometimes greater
than the possibility of success.
The movie "Columbus 1492" has a great line for effective
churches to remember. In one scene, Christopher Columbus has a nautical
map for the journey; however, he and his crew sail beyond the map. They
send a message back to headquarters with this report: "We have sailed
beyond the map. Please send further instructions."
At the Aldersgate UMC, I hope we have a penchant
to sail beyond the map. We must place our complete
trust and faith in God and His Spirit when we're beyond the map
and off the chart. I hope you'll join us Sunday morning to
dream dreams and see visions of the wondrous things of God.
The Bible states it so well:
"And in the last days it shall come to pass, God
declares, that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh, And your sons and
daughters shall preach. Your old shall dream dreams, and your young shall
see visions." (Joel 2:28)
"When the Day of Pentecost had come, they were
all gathered together in one place. And suddenly a sound came from heaven
like the rush of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they
were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributed
and resting on each of them. And they were filled with the Holy Spirit."
(Acts 2:1-4)
See you at the place where we celebrate the leading
of the Spirit of God.
Grace and Peace,
Kurt A. Gamlin, Pastor
