Children & Youth Education

Childcare

We offer childcare in our nursery for infants through age 2 from 8:15-12:15 covering our regular services by our professional childcare provider, Sheri Boland. During the summer, we offer preschool childcare from 8:15 -10:45 am.

Christian Education

Christian education provides children from our church and the community opportunities to grow spiritually and explore applying the Gospel to life’s experiences.

CHILDREN AND YOUTH EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES

Christian education involves much more than giving and receiving information about the Bible, the church, and God.  It involves forming and transforming the whole person – heart, mind, body, and spirit.  It is a way of growing closer to God and to one another.

Our Church School program uses a variety of curriculum throughout the year.  We use the Methodist based material, Rock Solid , for our Preschool and 1st & 2nd grade classes.  Rock Solid is a new curriculum this year that helps build a heart of faith in a child that will be a strong foundation for life.  Rock Solid engages young hearts and minds with age-appropriate multisensory activities, crafts, stories, and games, all designed to give children an opportunity to know God through Jesus and experience life-changing transformation.

The Kindergarten class and 3rd - 6th grade classes use the Methodist based material, curriculum called Live B.I.G. – Hear, See, and Live your Belief in God. The goal of Live B.I.G. curriculum is to help engage children with inviting stories, role models, sights, and sounds that will provide a foundation for Christian living that will lead them to experience and mirror God in their everyday lives.

The Junior Youth class (grades 7 & 8), will use a variety of Life-to-Bible topical curriculum.  Each Sunday their lesson will reflect on how the Scripture relates to their lives by engaging them in discussion by using videos, skits, and case studies.

The Senior Youth class (grades 9 – 12), uses a variety of materials.  The youth will become engaged with a topic that they understand and is relevant to their world. Then they will take it deeper into Bible study, which will equip them to evaluate their culture with a biblical perspective. During the year they will also engage in discussion related to a movie they watch in class together.

We offer child care from 8:15 – noon every Sunday.  Sheri Boland is our trained child care worker and offers a safe and caring environment for your child.  Each Sunday, Sheri will share a Bible story in a way your baby or toddler can understand using songs, games, fingerplays, or art.

Our church adapted a Safe Sanctuary Policy in October 2002 for the well being and safety of our children and youth.  The purpose of this policy is to demonstrate our absolute and unwavering commitment to the physical safety and spiritual growth of our children and youth.  We hope to ensure as much as possible that Aldersgate United Methodist Church will be a safe sanctuary where children and youth can be nurtured, confirmed and strengthened in their faith journeys.  It includes policies and procedures for all individuals that use the church and work with children and youth.  It is our intention to always provide a safe and supervised environment wherever our ministries may take place.  Please review this policy with your family.   We will have extra copies available upstairs in the rack and downstairs by the kitchen area.  If you have any questions about any part of this policy, please see Cheryl Ortolf.
