Serving OthersWe support both local and global missions that benefit individuals, families, the elderly, the sick, children, and youth. As a church, we donate time, resources, and money to these projects. Approximately one-fourth of the total church budget is allocated to support missions. Also, many individual members live their faith by participating in projects they choose. Learn more about mission opportunities for this month.
Local ProjectsWe provide financial assistance to several local groups that help the poor, the homeless, at-risk youth, college students, prisoners, and those afflicted with HIV/AIDS. Examples of supported groups include Habitat for Humanity, Kualoa-Heeia Ecumenical Project, Susannah Wesley Community Center, The Good News Jail and Prison Ministry, Hale Kipa (Waikiki Youth Outreach), Strength for the Journey, and the Wesley Foundation at the University of Hawaii. We have long supported the Institute for Human Services (IHS) by procuring, preparing, and serving meals to the homeless once a month. The church also maintains its own miniature Food Pantry, stocked with donations from members. Food and household items, such as soap, are given to those in need who come to the church. We support with prayers and actions our own military members who are separated from their families or deployed in harm's way. Learn more about our military members.
National and Global MissionsWe support both individual missionaries and mission projects in areas such as the United States, the Pacific, South America, the Middle East, and Africa. Examples of the work of individual missionaries include teaching people to live more self-sufficient and healthful lives, guiding agricultural projects, teaching English, and working with Palestinian Christians. Examples of mission projects include the Susannah Wesley Safe Home for Girls in Viaca, Brazil, and the Wings of the Morning aviation ministry in the Congo, which airlifts supplies and resources. We participate, primarily with financial assistance, in annual United Methodist California-Pacific Conference projects that promote peace, justice, education, and tolerance. We contribute as needed to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), which responds to natural and man-made disasters all over the world. Every penny of every donation goes directly to help the victims. Learn more about |
